Apparently the Transpac Yacht Club itself has decided to state the distance of it's OWN RACE from San Pedro - Honolulu incorrectly as 2225-miles rather than instill a "new distance" into the minds of many skippers, so confusion may not be as rampant now as it was when I grew up because all skippers can now just conveniently ignore the suffix n.m. I will try and break the bad habit of referring to n.m.
